Pick this one when you want the Niseko side rather than another lap of Lake Toya. Mount Yotei — Hokkaido's Little Fuji — Takahashi Farm's dairy counter and the Kyogoku spring water park are stops the $48 coach and the $56 all-in tour do not carry, and in late January and February the route swaps in the Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival, which is worth the ticket on its own. There is no bear facility on any variant, so if the park is your goal you still need the admission ticket and your own way to the onsen town. The standard route: Yotei, Toya and Hell Valley
The year-round version pairs Noboribetsu's Jigokudani with the Niseko side — Takahashi Farm at the foot of Mount Yotei for dairy and pastries, a lakeside stop at Toya, and the Kyogoku spring water park where meltwater from Yotei comes out of the ground cold and clear enough to bottle. It is the most balanced itinerary of the coaches we compare, and the least repetitive if you have already done a Toya circuit.
The winter route and the ice festival
From late January to late February the listing runs a Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival variant. The festival builds sculptures by spraying lake water over frames until they freeze into blue-tinted ice; lit at night, it is one of the two or three genuinely distinctive things to do in Hokkaido in deep winter. No variant does. If you want Noboribetsu Bear Park you need the ticket and your own transport; if any bear will do, the $56 tour includes Showa Shinzan Bear Ranch entry in its fare.
When does the ice festival route run?
Late January to late February, matching the Lake Shikotsu Ice Festival dates. Outside that window the package is not offered, so check your travel date against the available options before booking.
What is Takahashi Farm?
A working dairy at the foot of Mount Yotei with a shop selling milk, soft-serve and pastries made on site. The stop is short and the queue in summer is real, but it is the food stop travellers rate highest on this route.
Is Mount Yotei really like Mount Fuji?
In profile, yes — a near-symmetrical stratovolcano, which is why it is called Ezo Fuji locally. It is a little over half Fuji's height and far less visited, and on a clear day it dominates the Niseko skyline.
How much time is spent at Hell Valley?
It varies by route variant. All of them are shorter than an independent visit, which is one reason travellers who care about Noboribetsu itself tend to stay overnight in the onsen town instead.
